A few words about Exotic Piercings
Exotic piercings are piercings on normally covered areas of the body, which are covered during day to day interaction with other people. Nipples and Genital areas etc.. Exotic piercings are considered "ones little secret", to be noticed only by those one wishes to share them with in an intimate setting. Hence the word "exotic". From female piercings to male piercings these are intended to add sensation for the wearer and add visual enhancement for the observer.
All exotic piercings have there own unique qualities and add a certain little something to your intimate interaction with a partner (or just something for your self, that's up to you). When you are considering getting an exotic piercing, ask questions and do your research. This is when you need to have a consultation with your professional body piercer and ask about any concerns you may have and what benefits you can expect from the piercing you are interested in getting. Don't be shy about talking with your piercer. A true professional body piercer will explain in detail the procedure, the aftercare, and the benefits to each piercing you are interested in. She or he may also suggest other options for you to consider.
Safety is a concern with any piercing, be sure your piercer has really done the piercing you are interested in getting ( more than once or twice ). Not every piercer knows or has experience providing exotic piercings, so don't be scare to ask the hard questions ( how long have you been piercing professionally, how many of these have you done, has there been any issues, can I have some one else with me during the piercing ). An experienced professional will take all your questions in stride and answer them truthfully and honestly. If you get told you can't have a guest with you in the studio during the piercing or you get a shady response to your questions, smile, say thanks, and leave. Exotic piercings should never be trusted to an amateur, novice or inexperienced piercer ( any one who has less than 5 years of hands on experience as a body piercer). There are too many things that can go wrong and you don't want to be left with a botched piercing that can't be fixed by a real professional body piercer.
I have been piercing professionally since 1994, I have seen my share of screwed up exotic piercings done by would be novice piercers. Over the years I have provided hundreds of exotic piercings for women and men, that's lots of "more than happy" clients.
The advantage to most of the exotic piercings is simply a matter of time, the longer the piercing is kept with the jewellery in place the more "seasoned" the piercing will become. This allows the wearer the ability to remove the jewellery all together and still be able to put the jewellery back in when they want to "dress things up". Seasoning of exotic piercings can take up to a year to occur and then once seasoned jewellery should be worn for a few days every couple weeks to maintain the piercings, should the wearer choose not to wear jewellery every day. The piercing don't "heal over" so much as actually shrink when the jewellery is left out for long periods. Some clients consider purchasing insertion tapers to allow for easy insertion of jewellery back into piercings.
| The Smoking Gun The Smoking Gun Piercing guns have been the rage for many years prior to the advent of the modern body piercing movement, even then they were looked upon with an amount of disgust by the medical profession. One of the early versions of a professional "physician grade" autoclave safe piercing gun is depicted below. At the least this gun was operated by hand pressure and was used by a physician to insert metal studs into ear lobes. |
The Great Debates The Great Debates From aftercare to jewellery preference, there will never be a time when two piercers will agree on absolutely everything. Is a piercer wrong or unprofessional because s/he prefers to use bent barbells instead of rings for navel piercings? Recommends Listerine instead of Oral-B? Uses 14 gauge barbells for tongue piercings? |
| I want to get a Piercing I want to get a Piercing! Shop around, visit the shops you have interest in and talk to the piercers, look at the studios ask some smart questions. Don't price shop, use your head, we are talking about your body and putting a hole in it somewhere. Do your research on the piercing you want then ask the piercer about the piercing and the aftercare for the piercing. Use common sense and gut instinct. |
It's Infected, now what? It's infected now what? Professional piercers know much more about body piercing than the average person, so this in mind, you have to pick a course of action. Start by seeing your piercer as soon as possible. Infections are easy to treat so long as they are handled quickly and properly.. |
| Common Sense Aftercare Aftercare is a simple procedure in the care of any body piercing from simple ear piercings to the extreme piercings, but you have to remember some common points with all aftercare instructions. Many clients quickly forget half of what they are told in the studio after getting a piercing, partly due to the excitement of the piercing and partly from the rush of having just got what they wanted for a while. |
It's an Art form, It's what we do.Our body piercer is among some of the most experienced piercers in British Columbia. Our senior piercer is from the old school of piercing and studied various piercing methods at length as well as many variations offered by other senior piercers in the industry. Instrument use, technique, sterilization methods and metals used for the process of piercing were looked at in great detail. |
